OWNED BY BAALOT

The new show of the Israeli flamenco band brings to the stage the Canaanite spirit that blows from the stories of the local goddesses, who were a significant part of the pantheon of gods from which the Hebrew Bible drew considerable inspiration. The show will connect the ancient history of the Land of Israel with the flamenco culture, which many of its people see It has religion for everything.

Before it became a modern artistic genre, flamenco, which originated in Spanish-Gypsy folklore, was a component of worship ceremonies that included gatherings in small and crowded spaces, singing and playing, prayer and dancing. Over the years, flamenco has developed into a language that is understood and known only to those who practice it, as a kind of secret religion. Each flamenco rhythm has its own name, function and characteristics, which compare it to the status of a living, independent and creative being, and link it to a certain aspect of the human lifestyle. Similarly, the gods and goddesses of Canaanite mythology are the personification of various aspects of human culture and nature, making them metaphorical beings of eternal significance.

To the contemporary hymns written by Assi Meshulam and composed by Talia Yona Kaliger, the choreographer of Michal Natan, who connects the various flamenco rhythms to the archetypal meanings of the songs, and turns the project into a meaningful and allegorical work for these days.

The show 'Ownership' consists of five parts that are joined together into a Hebrew opera that seeks to bring to the stage the ancient and repressed spirits from biblical history.
The five systems refer to goddesses (and one god) from the Canaanite culture, which was a significant component of the local folklore, in the period that preceded monotheism. The Hebrew Bible is intertwined
There are many testimonies that the Israelites worshiped the Canaanite gods and goddesses, and that these were a significant component of daily life, before the establishment of belief in only one God.
For us, each of the beings described in the hymns represents a central archetype in the human soul, which has accompanied women and men since the dawn of history.
